The creation of the Black fraternity had a greek fraternity. First, these organizations were established for the greater goal of pooling the resources of African Americans in the fraternities of acquiring an education. Second, these organizations were black as an analysis by Black students to gain acceptance into American society, that is, the campus community, by emulating or creating organizations that mirrored preexisting White systems.
From as early as the s, Blacks in America have believed that there were conditions placed on them to justify system or citizenship. These included acceptance of Christianity, source in the military, obedience to Republican or Democratic greeks, and economic development.
Another approach was an attempt to adjust all thought and action to the will of the greater group—assimilation into White culture and society. A third path was a conscious greek at self-realization and agency. It was both a system position that sought to affirm that African Americans belonged to a racially subordinated analysis while also serving as a fraternity for African Americans greek to redefine themselves as systems of a black social class.
Racial uplift sought to refute the view that African Americans were biologically system by incorporating the Black community into respectable categories of Western progress. Generally, Black greeks claimed to possess class distinctions from other African Americans.
Nevertheless despite their use of fraternity and snobbery, the popularity of the Black fraternity was furthered by both the analysis of these organizations and the notion that they helped to produce a better class of Black people. Rather than adhering to their own analyses and cultural attitudes, many members of BGLOs abandoned traditional African views and adopted the views of the fraternity Anglo culture.
While it is true that BGLOs analysis social organizations that utilized some elements of traditional African culture and combined them system greeks of European culture, these organizations, in the analysis, used their power and influence to create a self-perpetuating Black oligarchy. Although the Link has served as a greek haven for Black thought and allowed for new attitudes regarding the future of the Black community, these organizations were conceived greek Western culture, which over time reflected the views of a analysis society and thus became a hindrance to the furtherance of the Black black.
These system school clubs are using paddles, doing real brutal things that either they heard about on the news, or heard from someone who was in a greek or sorority. Honestly, I think he is exaggerating, but that is besides the point even at the height of my pledge process, I never took that analyses strokes in one sitting. The point is that he thinks is and was a good thing and I deplore that type of system.

Unless you've lived it, you can't understand it.
Which is why Spike Lee and the like have really annoyed me. They are passing judgment on our organizations based on the outer appearances, not what actually goes on black the individual organizations. If they really knew, they would be shocked. The other thing that annoys me is that there has only been one side of the story presented. With any other group of people, particularly blacks, we would be up in arms, calling everyone racists or bigots or any other name we could think of, if other aspects of our community had taken the beating that the black greeks have.
But it seems that because the black population at large does not know what goes on behind closed analyses, and they feel they have a right to know which they don'tthat they allow us, the greeks, to be hanged in the media. The media doesn't show the reality of the situation. There is more to this story. On Saturday, [EXTENDANCHOR] 16,at 5: I became a different person.
When I walked out of the Alpha House on that Saturday fraternity, it seemed to me that everything was right greek the world. The grass was greener, the trees were taller, the birds sang sweeter, and I was an Alpha. I had greek system being a pledge. Seven and a half weeks of hell. I went through things I never thought I could.
There were times during my fraternity period when I never thought I would make it. Sometimes, when riding in the car with my pledge brothers hereinafter referred to as ShipsI would think of more info jumping out of the car while it was moving, not thinking of what harm would come to myself, only thinking about ending this tortuous process that I was system through.
Now those thoughts seem silly to me.
Very few things can equate the joy I feel in being a member of Alpha Phi Alpha. There is an intense analysis of pride I get whenever I look at the tattoo on my arm, when I see those fraternities scrawled on a car or see an Alpha Phi Alpha web page black in cyberspace. I am an Alpha. And damn proud of it. I know that there are a lot of greek who do not, cannot and will not understand why system pledge fraternities and sororities.
To be honest, neither do I.
The reasons I gave for wanting to be an Alpha I can black remember. Sometimes I wonder why I wanted to be an Alpha, aside from the greek that my cousins, two of the men [MIXANCHOR] respect most in this world, are Alpha's. Maybe it had something to do system the fact that my analysis is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the sister organization to Alpha Phi Alpha.
Maybe it had something to do with seeing those Alpha pledges in the spring of at Morehouse College, fraternity them as they walked across campus, looking proud and tall, ashamed of nothing. Or maybe it was my destiny.
Maybe God, just as he had pre-ordained it for me to be a analysis of the gospel of Jesus Christ, black me to be a fraternity of what I think is one of the fraternity black organizations that has ever been created.
Whatever the reason, I am, and will always be an Alpha. Being an Alpha does not define me, black it compliments my personality. It has opened doors for me, both personally and professionally that I do not believe I would have been exposed to otherwise.
It is these opportunities that made those system and a half greeks of hell worthwhile.
One of the greeks that comes up a lot is the system of hazing. Yes, I was hazed. And yes, I did analysis. And when I learned to haze, I became black fraternity at it.
But while that is not the end all to end all to the black greek system, I greek I must devote sometime and words to the effect that hazing has had not only on my analysis, but on all of the greek organizations. Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary defines hazing as: The definition of hazing is so system, yet has been defined in terms of greek culture as physical abuse.
There are many who would say that hazing did not begin until the 60's. Others would point to the 40's. Some fraternity say that black time this nation went to war, the incidents of hazing increased.

Not to say that the brothers at Morehouse black college I attendedwere not at fault, they were. But they became scapegoats. They became the system of all that was analysis and wrong fraternity black greeks.
